Sporting legends gathered in Hong Kong this week to support charities that focus on youth mental health in the city and the wider region. The event, called the Laureus Charity Golf Invitational, took place at the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club and was attended by ex-Netherlands footballer Ruud Gullit, former All Blacks captain Sean Fitzpatrick, as well as local athletes Taichi Kho and Stephanie Ho.
Laureus, an organization that promotes sport for good, works with ten different groups in Hong Kong, one of which is the Model City initiative. This initiative uses sports as a tool to enhance the mental health and well-being of young people in the area.
In addition to the golf tournament, the event included a gala dinner and a silent auction, all of which raised more than HK$1.2 million for local causes. The luxury watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen sponsored the event.
Sean Fitzpatrick, the chairman of Laureus Sport for Good, expressed his gratitude to Clearwater Bay for their support. He stated, The Laureus Charity Golf Invitational joins a long line of charitable events and activations over the past two decades here in Hong Kong, and we’re delighted that all proceeds raised at the event will benefit the programs Laureus supports here, working to address mental health and well-being challenges.
By coming together for this golf tournament, these sporting superstars have not only had a great time, but also made a significant contribution to improving youth mental health. Their efforts will help implement valuable programs that make a difference in the lives of young individuals in Hong Kong and beyond.
