Spencer Torkelson Powers Tigers with Second Multi-Homer Game Against Twins
In an exciting game against the Minnesota Twins, Spencer Torkelson once again showcased his power hitting abilities by hitting two home runs for the second time in a week. The Detroit Tigers came out on top with an 8-7 victory on Wednesday.
Torkelson’s first home run came in the top of the seventh inning when he lifted Griffin Jax’s pitch into the left-field seats. This gave the Tigers a 6-4 lead and marked Torkelson’s fourth career multi-homer game. Interestingly, his previous multi-homer game was against the same Twins team just last week in Detroit.
The Tigers’ relief pitchers, including Beau Brieske, Tyler Holton, Alex Lange, and Will Vest, were instrumental in securing the win by delivering 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Holton, in particular, stood out and earned the win with an impressive performance, striking out five batters in 2 1/3 perfect innings.
On the Twins’ side, Max Kepler and Jorge Polanco also hit home runs, while Kerry Carpenter contributed a solo shot for the Tigers. Despite the loss, the Twins still maintain a four-game lead over Cleveland for the AL Central lead, while the Tigers remain eight games behind.
In another game, the New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates with an 8-3 win. DJ Stewart played a crucial role in the Mets’ victory by hitting two home runs, marking his first multi-homer game in two years. His solo shot in the second inning and two-run homer in the fifth off Ryan Borucki helped propel the Mets to victory. Pete Alonso also made his mark with his 36th home run, moving him into the Mets’ top 10 list in RBIs with 469.
The Mets’ pitcher, Tylor Megill, earned his first win in exactly two months after giving up only two runs in five innings. On the Pirates’ side, Bryan Reynolds hit a two-run homer, but it wasn’t enough to turn the game around.
Fans and baseball enthusiasts enjoyed an eventful day of games, witnessing players like Torkelson and Stewart demonstrate their power on the field. These thrilling performances continue to add excitement to the season as teams compete for victory in the race for the playoffs.
