The proposed amnesty has drawn criticism for potentially allowing separatist leaders, including Carles Puigdemont, to run for office again. Sanchez’s opponents argue that he is disregarding the rule of law for political gain. Protests and clashes with police have erupted in response to the amnesty deal. Despite the controversy, Sanchez is one step closer to securing his position as Prime Minister for another term.
