The coordination committee meeting of forest officers from three southern states to contain the human-wildlife conflict which is increasing due to the increase in population of wild animals will be held at Bandipur on Sunday.
The human-wildlife conflict is increasing in this region which borders Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
Karnataka forest minister Eshwar Khandre and Kerala minister for forest and wildlife protection AK Saseendran are expected to participate in the meeting.Senior officials from Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu will be present.
It is the first such meeting being held at Bandipur Tiger Reserve. This meeting is expected to result in better coordination and information sharing between the three states in forest conservation, poaching menace, forest destruction, and movement of wild animals. The meeting is also expected to pave the way for the adoption of best practices, knowledge, and technology among the three states. In the meeting all three states expected to share their experience on bringing down the human-wildlife conflict.
Khandre announced this meeting recently after an elephant from Karnataka killed a man in Wayanad in February. This incident led to massive outrage both in Karnataka and Kerala.
Jyothilal, additional chief secretary, forest department, Kerala, Manjunatha Prasad, additional chief secretary, forest department, Karnataka, BK Dixit, PCCF, and chief of forest force, Karnataka, Ganga Singh, PCCF, and head of forest force, Kerala will participate in the brainstorming meeting.
