South Dakota Coyotes Achieve Dominant Victory over Western Illinois with a 48-6 Win

In a thrilling match on Saturday, the South Dakota Coyotes showcased their prowess on the field with a resounding 48-6 victory over Western Illinois. The Coyotes, with a season record of 9-2 and 7-1 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, left no room for doubt as they dominated their opponents throughout the game.

Quarterback Aidan Bouman played a crucial role in South Dakota’s success, throwing for an impressive 268 yards and two touchdowns. His outstanding performance put the Coyotes in a favorable position early in the game. Bouman’s 54-yard pass to Keyondray Jones secured a touchdown, granting South Dakota a 10-6 lead with just 3 minutes and 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

However, it was in the third quarter that South Dakota truly showcased their dominance. The team’s explosive offense combined with the sheer determination of L.J. Phillips Jr., who ran for two touchdowns, caused Western Illinois to struggle to keep up. Phillips’ relentless efforts resulted in scoring runs of 6 and 5 yards, widening the gap to an impressive 41-6 lead in favor of South Dakota.

Despite their defeat, Western Illinois did manage to secure a momentary advantage when Matt Morrissey threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tre Maronic, giving them a 6-3 lead following a failed two-point conversion attempt. Unfortunately for Western Illinois, it was short-lived, as South Dakota quickly regained control of the game.

The Coyotes’ ground game was equally impressive, with Nate Thomas racking up an impressive 102 yards on just eight carries. His incredible 59-yard touchdown run demonstrated the team’s multifaceted offense. Phillips also made significant contributions, running for an impressive 93 yards on 15 carries.

Additionally, Carter Bell showcased his skills as a receiver, accumulating an impressive 142 yards on seven receptions for the fifth-ranked FCS team, the South Dakota Coyotes.

This victory places South Dakota in a strong position, demonstrating their dominance in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. With their remarkable performance, the Coyotes are certainly a team to watch as they continue to pursue success this season.
