Soldiers of Christ Face Court for Alleged Torture Death

Gwinnett County, Georgia – Members of the Soldiers of Christ are due to appear in court on Thursday as they await a decision on whether they will be granted bond. Hyunji Lee, Juoonhym Lee, Gawom Lee, Joonho Lee, and their mother, Mihee Lee, will all face the judge at 1:30 p.m.

The defendants are facing charges of beating, starving, and torturing a woman to death in a basement. The abuse and subsequent death occurred weeks before the woman’s body was discovered in the trunk of a car outside a popular Duluth spa last month.

In total, seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, including the individuals mentioned above and Eric Hyun. Hyun has already been granted a $100,000 bond, with his attorney asserting his innocence and claiming that Hyun was also a victim in this tragic incident. The attorney stated that Hyun had been severely beaten and taken advantage of financially. It was also claimed that Hyun escaped with the woman’s remains in the trunk on the night her body was found.

Notably, Hyun will not be present at Thursday’s hearing since his bond has already been granted, as stated in court records.

According to Gwinnett County Police, this summer, a woman from South Korea left her home to join what she believed was a religious organization in Georgia. Instead, she found herself at a residence in Gwinnett County, where she was allegedly subjected to torture that led to her demise.

Authorities revealed that on or around August 3, five individuals in their twenties and a teenager, referring to themselves as Soldiers of Christ, held her captive in the basement, subjected her to physical assaults, and deprived her of food until she eventually passed away.

Police reported that when they discovered the woman’s body in the car’s trunk, she weighed a mere 70 pounds.

Every suspect involved is now facing charges including felony murder, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, concealing the death of another, as well as gang activity charges.

This story is still developing, and further updates will be provided. Please check back regularly for the latest information.
