SoCalGas Collaborates with LA Regional Food Bank, Donates $100,000 to Provide Meals for Angelenos

In a generous effort to combat food insecurity in Los Angeles County, SoCalGas has announced a $100,000 donation to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. This significant contribution will facilitate the provision of approximately 400,000 meals to individuals and families throughout the community. SoCalGas’ donation is part of its 2023 Fueling Our Communities initiative, aimed at funding programs that help combat hunger and grocery shortages in the region.

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank plays a crucial role in addressing widespread food insecurity, as approximately 1 in 4 residents in the county face this challenge, according to a report by USC. This substantial grant from SoCalGas will enable the food bank to make a substantial impact on the lives of those struggling with food insecurity. To date, the LA Regional Food Bank has distributed an impressive 1.6 billion meals to children, seniors, individuals, and families in need.

President and CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank expressed immense gratitude to SoCalGas for their generous support, highlighting how this collaboration will allow them to provide much-needed nourishment to families and foster hope for a brighter future. SoCalGas, in turn, emphasized their deep commitment to the well-being of the communities they serve and their dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by food insecurity.

The Fueling Our Communities initiative, launched in 2020 as a collaborative response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has already proven successful in providing over 140,000 meals to 40,000 individuals from underserved communities. SoCalGas aims to expand the impact of this program by allocating the largest commitment to date in 2023, with new and existing partnerships with food banks and non-profit organizations in its 12-county service area.

SoCalGas, headquartered in California, is the region’s largest gas distribution utility, delivering affordable and reliable gas services to over 21 million consumers across Central and Southern California. While the company is committed to supporting local communities and driving positive change, it also strives to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045 and replace 20% of its traditional natural gas supply with renewable natural gas by 2030.

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, on the other hand, has been diligently mobilizing resources to fight hunger in the community for the past 50 years. Its distribution network of partner agencies and other programs ensures that food and grocery products reach those in need. The Food Bank also actively engages the community through volunteerism, nutrition education campaigns, and advocacy for public policies that improve nutrition security.

This collaboration between SoCalGas and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank showcases their combined efforts to tackle food insecurity head-on. By channeling their resources and expertise, they are making a significant impact on the lives of individuals and families struggling with hunger. As the fight against food insecurity continues, partnerships like this one are crucial in nourishing communities and providing hope for a hunger-free future.
