Snapchat Partners with OpenAI to Integrate ChatGPT’s AI Technology into Lens Developers’ Capabilities
Snapchat, the popular multimedia messaging app, has announced a collaboration with OpenAI to introduce a new ChatGPT Remote API for Lens developers. This partnership aims to expand the functionality of Lenses by leveraging the power of OpenAI’s ChatGPT artificial intelligence technology.
Lens developers can now incorporate ChatGPT into their creations, offering Snapchatters a wide range of learning, conversational, and creative experiences. With this integration, developers can design Lenses featuring infinite quizzes and randomizers powered by ChatGPT. Additionally, they have the opportunity to create Lenses that automatically adjust camera styles, applying filters and director modes based on user input.
Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, has already employed OpenAI’s technology in the past. Their My AI chatbot relies on the capabilities of OpenAI’s GPT technology. In Lens Studio 5.0 Beta, Snap introduces another exciting AI feature, a 3D face mask generator. This tool combines generative AI with Snap’s face mesh capabilities and allows users to easily create their own unique self-expression Lenses.
Enhancing project management for developers, Lens Studio 5.0 Beta now supports version control tools like Git. This new addition enables multiple developers to collaborate on projects simultaneously, enhancing productivity and efficiency.
Snapchat boasts an impressive number of developers actively building on its augmented reality (AR) platform. Currently, there are over 330,000 developers who have collectively created nearly 3.5 million Lenses. These Lenses have been viewed an astonishing 3 trillion times by Snapchatters in the past year.
Last year, Snap revolutionized Lenses by introducing Digital Goods, enabling developers to integrate business models directly into their creations. As part of this latest update, Snap is making Digital Goods available to all developers, allowing them to offer exclusive AR features within their Lenses for a fee. To facilitate easy access, Snap has created a dedicated section in Lens Explorer that promotes Lenses with Digital Goods, making them discoverable and inviting Snapchatters to try them out.
Snapchat’s partnership with OpenAI and the integration of ChatGPT’s AI capabilities into Lens developers’ toolkit open up a world of possibilities for augmented reality experiences. By combining innovative technologies and continuously expanding the features available to developers, Snapchat remains at the forefront of AR development, continuing to captivate users with its dynamic and engaging platform.
