The Indian government-owned company SJVN has signed a development agreement for a 669 MW hydroelectric project in Nepal, which is expected to cost INR57.92bn ($795m) and be completed within five years. The Lower Arun Hydro Electric project will be based in Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts in Nepal and will be developed on a build-operate-own-transfer basis. Once complete, the project is expected to generate 2901 million units of energy a year and features a levelised tariff of INR4.99 per unit. SJVN will also construct a 217 km transmission network to provide power to India. SJVN signed the deal alongside the Investment Board of Nepal.
