Six people have died in a clash that took place in Haryana, India, resulting in condemnation from Farooq Abdullah, the President of the National Conference party. Abdullah expressed his deep sadness over the incident and stated that religious fights are detrimental to the country. He emphasized that India belongs to everyone, and all religions have the right to flourish.
The clash occurred in Nuh district on July 31, when two groups engaged in violence during a procession. Out of the six fatalities, two were police home guards. The Haryana Home Minister, Anil Vij, reiterated his belief that the violence was part of a larger conspiracy that is currently under investigation.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar confirmed the death toll and urged people not to be influenced by rumors, calling for calm in the region. In response to the violence, 116 people have been arrested thus far, and additional security forces have been deployed in the affected areas.
In light of the incident, security has been heightened in adjoining districts, including Faridabad, Palwal, and Gurugram. There were also reports of fresh violence in several other districts in Haryana, including Gurugram’s Badshahpur and Sohna Road.
Authorities imposed Section 144 for 48 hours in Nuh, along with a temporary suspension of mobile internet services. However, Assistant Commissioner of Police Varun Dahiya (Crime), Gurugram, assured that all schools, colleges, and workplaces were functioning normally in Gurugram, with no restrictions on traffic movement. He urged the public not to give credence to social media rumors and to report any information to the helpline number ‘112’.
Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala criticized the organizers of the yatra, a religious procession, for failing to provide complete information to the district administration, suggesting that the violence could have been avoided. Chautala vowed strict action against those responsible.
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav declared that the situation in Gurugram was under control, with normalcy restored and markets open. A peace committee meeting was held in Sohna, a focus area, and a flag march conducted to maintain peace and order.
