Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has pledged to investigate the creation of a separate commission for nomadic communities, following a meeting with a delegation from the Nomadic Tribes Mahasabha group. Led by Dr C.S. Dwarkanath, the delegation spoke to the Chief Minister about the difficulties facing the state’s numerous nomadic communities. Siddaramaiah advised members of the Hawadiga community, who make a living as snake charmers, to ensure their children received an education. He also promised to review the other requests made by the delegation from communities including Sudugadu Siddharu, Jenu Kuruba, Budaga Jangama and Halal Khor. Siddaramaiah also outlined his commitment to improving healthcare in the state, stating that he wanted to see government hospitals provide treatment for everyone, including himself. Speaking at the Florence Nightingale Nurses Awards ceremony, he praised the profession for its sacred nature. The Chief Minister presented awards to Jemimal Christopher, R. Priyadarshini, Shashi Kumar, John Marshall, Bhuvaneshwari, Prescilla Rodrigues, Bharti Patil, M.M. Rathi, Shailaja B.M., B. Renuka, Kavita, and Dr Sanjay M. Peerapur.
