Congress Party Leader Claims Y.S. Sharmila Will Soon Join Congress
Prominent Congress leader K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao has made a bold claim that Y.S. Sharmila, the leader of YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), will soon be joining the Congress party. As the daughter of the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, a staunch Congressman and former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Sharmila has been extended an invitation to join the party.
Rao, a close friend and confidant of Rajasekhara Reddy, revealed that he had inside information on Sharmila’s imminent membership in the Congress. In a recent meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at Gannavaram airport, Rao discussed the current political landscape in Andhra Pradesh and expressed his confidence in the Congress’s potential to come to power in the state in 2024.
Rao believes that the Congress party’s defeat in the previous election was largely due to its alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Telangana back in 2018. With the goal of rebuilding the party from the ground up in the state, Rao hopes that Sharmila’s entry into the Congress will strengthen its chances of winning in future elections.
Speculations regarding Sharmila’s merger with the Congress have been making rounds for the past few weeks. However, the YSRTP leader has denied reports suggesting that she would be appointed as the president of the Congress party in the state. Sharmila, who is the sister of the current Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, also dismissed any rumors regarding her receiving a proposal for a Congress Rajya Sabha ticket from Karnataka.
Sharmila emphasized her commitment to the cause of Telangana and her dedicated fight for the rights of the people in the region. She asserted that her future lies in Telangana and that she would continue to serve its people until her last breath. Sharmila has already declared her intention to contest from the Palair constituency in Khammam district.
