Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 3 (ANI): In a significant development following the split in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), party chief Sharad Pawar has appointed Sonia Doohan as the in-charge of the NCP’s New Delhi Central office.
According to a statement released by Sharad Pawar, all public and office bearers of the NCP have been notified that Sonia Doohan will now be responsible for the Nationalist Congress Party’s New Delhi central office.
Earlier today, Sharad Pawar took action against party vice president Praful Patel and MP Sunil Tatkare, removing them from the party due to their involvement in anti-party activities.
Pawar also announced that the NCP would initiate formal proceedings for the disqualification of these MPs.
These actions by Pawar came after the party’s working president, Supriya Sule, recommended disciplinary action against Patel and Tatkare for their role in the swearing-in of nine MLAs as cabinet ministers in the BJP-Shiv Sena Maharashtra government.
On Sunday, Ajit Pawar, who was the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, accompanied by eight other MLAs.
In his communication to the two-party MPs, Pawar stated, Your actions of supporting Ajit Pawar and the eight other MLAs, who have sworn oath as Ministers in violation of the party’s direction and mandate, ex-facie amount to anti-party activities and that you deemed to have voluntarily left the membership of Nationalist Congress Party.
Praful Patel, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, has been a close associate of Sharad Pawar and held the position of working president of the NCP until last month. He also served as a minister in the Congress-led UPA government alongside Pawar.
