Shakeel Ahmad Khan, a senior MLA of the Congress party, has been elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) in the Bihar Assembly. Ahmad was selected unanimously to replace Ajit Sharma, who held the position since the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections. Several senior party leaders, including Bhakt Charan Das and Akhilesh Singh, were present during Ahmad’s election.
The decision to elect Ahmad was made to balance the caste equation, as Singh and Sharma belong to the same caste. Mishra added that the party has always been in favor of giving representation to different sections of society in important positions. All legislators present and those who could not attend the meeting gave their consent to Ahmad’s appointment via telephone conversation.
During the meeting, members passed a resolution praising Sharma’s leadership as CLP leader. Another resolution honored those who lost their lives in a train accident in Odisha. The party leaders expressed their satisfaction with Congress’ excellent performance in the recently concluded Karnataka Assembly elections.
Overall, Ahmad’s appointment represents a step forward for the Congress party in the Bihar Assembly. His experience and leadership will be critical in leading the party forward in the coming months.
