The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer film Dunki witnessed a surge in box office collections on the last day of 2023, earning ₹12 crore. The film initially experienced a dip in its second weekend, with single-digit earnings. However, it managed to pick up momentum on its tenth day, coinciding with the New Year weekend, and garnered ₹9 crore on its second Saturday.
With this latest boost, the film’s total earnings now stand at ₹188.22 crore, according to reports. On Sunday, the film maintained an overall occupancy rate of 38.49 percent for its shows. Considering the festive season, Dunki is expected to continue performing well even on Monday.
Meanwhile, another film directed by Rajkumar Hirani has maintained a strong presence in the global box office, surpassing the ₹361 crore mark worldwide.
Red Chillies Entertainment, the production house behind Dunki, shared a poster on their official social media account acknowledging the immense support and love from the audience. The post expressed gratitude, stating, Yeh kahani Hardy ne shuru ki thi… lekin isey dher sara pyaar aapne diya hai (This story was started by Hardy, but it is you who has showered so much love on it).
Dunki is a comedy-drama centered around the concept of illegal immigration known as donkey flight, which many Indians resort to in pursuit of a better life abroad. Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the film features talented actors such as Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover. It serves as Shah Rukh’s third and final release of 2023, following the consecutive action blockbusters Pathaan and Jawan.
Released on December 21, Dunki faces tough competition from the Prabhas-starrer Salaar, which hit theaters a day after its release.
With its intriguing storyline and stellar cast, Dunki continues to captivate audiences and enjoy significant success at the box office. As the film’s earnings soar, it remains a popular choice among moviegoers during the holiday season.
