At least seven individuals were injured in an accident involving an MSRTC Shivneri bus on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Khopoli. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, is believed to have been caused by the bus driver’s failure to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles ahead and control the speed of the bus.
Local authorities quickly responded to the scene and managed traffic movement in the area. Three of the injured individuals were taken to MGM Hospital in Kalamboli, while the remaining were transported to Khopoli Civil Hospital for medical attention, according to an official statement.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver’s lack of distance from the two vehicles ahead and inability to control the bus’s speed were the primary factors leading to the accident. The MSRTC bus, with registration number MH12VF3924, was closely following a Tata company truck on the Pune-Mumbai route when the collision occurred. As a result, the bus driver and six passengers sustained injuries.
The responsibility for the accident lies with the MSRTC bus driver, as per initial findings. The Khopoli Police Station is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. MSRTC’s Karjat Depot, under the supervision of Depot Manager Devanand More, is also conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
