At least seven individuals were injured in an accident involving an MSRTC Shivneri bus on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Khopoli. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, is believed to have been caused by the bus driver’s failure to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles ahead and control the speed of the bus.
Local authorities quickly responded to the scene and managed traffic movement in the area. Three of the injured individuals were taken to MGM Hospital in Kalamboli, while the remaining were transported to Khopoli Civil Hospital for medical attention, according to an official statement.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver’s lack of distance from the two vehicles ahead and inability to control the bus’s speed were the primary factors leading to the accident. The MSRTC bus, with registration number MH12VF3924, was closely following a Tata company truck on the Pune-Mumbai route when the collision occurred. As a result, the bus driver and six passengers sustained injuries.
The responsibility for the accident lies with the MSRTC bus driver, as per initial findings. The Khopoli Police Station is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. MSRTC’s Karjat Depot, under the supervision of Depot Manager Devanand More, is also conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident. The aim is to propose measures that can prevent similar incidents in the future, in order to ensure the safety of passengers.
It is crucial to highlight the importance of following traffic regulations, including maintaining a proper distance from the vehicle ahead to avoid collisions. Compliance with speed limits and being vigilant on the road can significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
This incident serves as a reminder for both drivers and authorities to prioritize safety on highways and expressways. Adequate driver training and awareness programs should be implemented to emphasize the importance of maintaining safe distances and controlling vehicle speed.
As the investigation progresses, it is vital to respect the privacy of the individuals involved and await official updates from the authorities. Road users are urged to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of all commuters.
By adopting responsible driving practices and implementing preventive measures, such as regular vehicle maintenance and comprehensive driver training programs, we can work towards creating safer roads for everyone. Let’s prioritize road safety and make it a collective responsibility for a secure and accident-free journey.
