Police Seek Assistance in Investigating Serious Crash Involving Stolen Vehicle at Mascot

Police have launched an investigation into a serious crash involving a stolen motor vehicle that occurred in Mascot over the weekend. The incident, which took place on Sunday, saw a white Kia Cerato collide with a red Honda Jazz on Southern Cross Drive, prompting an urgent appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash just before 1 am on Sunday. Upon arrival, they found a passenger trapped inside the Kia, a 13-year-old boy. With the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW, officers from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Squad successfully freed the young boy. He was then rushed to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick in a serious condition.

Additionally, two female passengers, aged 12 and 13, who were also in the Kia, were transported to the same hospital for observations.

Shockingly, the driver of the stolen Kia fled the scene on foot before emergency services arrived. Investigators from South Sydney Police Area Command promptly secured the crime scene, which was thoroughly examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the Kia Cerato had been reported stolen the day prior from an address in Alexandria. This information suggests a possible connection between the theft and the subsequent crash.

In an effort to gather more evidence and piece together the events leading up to the collision, authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses dashcam or mobile phone footage to come forward. They can contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
