The sentencing hearings for former leaders of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio and Ethan Nordean, have been postponed due to an unspecified emergency, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced. The DOJ made the decision shortly before the hearing was scheduled to take place, stating that it was due to an emergency.
Enrique Tarrio, along with Proud Boy members Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl, and Dominic Pezzola, was convicted of various charges, including seditious conspiracy, for their involvement in the January 6th events. Prosecutors are seeking a 33-year sentence for Tarrio.
It is important to note that Tarrio was not present in Washington, D.C. on January 6th as he had been arrested two days prior for destruction of property. However, he did not immediately comply with the order to leave the District and instead met with Oath Keepers leader Elmer Stewart Rhodes III in an underground parking garage, according to the indictment.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. made the announcement of the postponed sentencing hearings, but did not provide any further details regarding the nature of the emergency. The DOJ has not yet responded to requests for comment.
This unexpected delay in the sentencing hearings for Tarrio and Nordean has left many questions unanswered. As the Department of Justice works to resolve this emergency situation, further updates are awaited to determine when the hearings will be rescheduled.
