Bhubaneswar MP and BJP national spokesperson Aparajita Sarangi has accused a top officer in the government of Odisha of hijacking the entire governance system in the state. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Sarangi highlighted the mandate of the Indian Constitution, which requires a politically-elected legislature to handle legislative procedures and policy-making, and a political executive to carry forward social-economic development, maintain law and order, among other duties. In Odisha, however, the entire governance system has reportedly been taken over by a secretary-rank bureaucrat, Sarangi claimed without mentioning a name. Sarangi also asked why the political executive has yielded power to the bureaucrat. She called for an investigation into the allegation and asked for disciplinary action against the officer for a violation of conduct rules.Â
