New Delhi, Mar 11 (PTI) Sembcorp Industries on Monday announced that its arm Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd (GIWEL) has secured a 440 MW wind-solar hybrid power project from SJVN Ltd. The project, part of a 1.5GW bid issued by SJVN in September 2023, marks a significant step towards renewable energy production in India.
The build-own-operate project, awarded to Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd, is set to contribute to the country’s green energy goals. Under the terms of the agreement, the power output from the hybrid project will be sold to SJVN for a period of 25 years. This initiative underscores the commitment to sustainable energy sources and the development of clean power solutions.
Sembcorp Industries highlighted that the Project is expected to be operational within 24 months of signing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The funding for the project will be a combination of internal resources and debt, signaling a strategic approach to financing renewable energy ventures.
With this latest accolade, Sembcorp’s total renewables capacity worldwide now stands at 14.3GW, affirming its position as a key player in the global clean energy sector. The company is also in the process of finalizing a 245MW acquisition, further enhancing its renewable energy portfolio.
The partnership between Sembcorp’s Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd and SJVN represents a significant milestone in promoting sustainable energy practices and reducing the carbon footprint. The endeavor aligns with India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in driving the transition towards a more environmentally friendly future.
