Selectmen Request Vehicle Safety Measures, Septic System Inspection in Andover

Selectmen in Andover have requested vehicle safety measures and septic system inspections in the town. They have sent letters to the owners of two South Main Street businesses, asking them not to park customers’ vehicles next to the state road due to safety concerns. The businesses, Kate’s Cones and Martin’s Services and Sales, have been identified as locations where sidewalks were removed by previous owners and must be restored to their original state. The selectmen acknowledged that they cannot hold the current business owners responsible for fixing the situation. In addition to this matter, the selectmen have also approved an excavation to inspect and repair a damaged septic system pipe at the Fire Station. The Fire Chief, Jim Adler, reported that a crushed pipe was discovered during a recent inspection using a scope camera. The septic system is not frequently used, so it is believed that the waste is seeping into the nearby area rather than going to the leach field. In a separate appointment, Richard Coloumbe has been named as the interim code enforcement officer for the town. He began his new role on Tuesday.
