The Cyberabad police commissioner, Avinash Mohanty, has announced a renewed focus on nabbing suppliers and peddlers in their ongoing fight against the drug menace. According to the latest crime review data published by the Cyberabad police, drugs worth a staggering Rs 27.82 crore were seized in 2023, leading to the apprehension of 550 peddlers, two suppliers, and 15 consumers.
Highlighting the urgency of tackling the drug trade, Commissioner Mohanty emphasized the need to target both large-scale suppliers and local peddlers. Speaking at the annual press meet, he stated, While we will continue to prioritize enforcement in pubs and farmhouses, we are adopting a more systematic approach to identify peddlers and suppliers.
In 2023 alone, the Cyberabad police confiscated 6,675 kilograms of ganja, valued at Rs 16.69 crore. Additionally, they seized charas worth Rs 8.08 crore, as well as cocaine and methaqualone worth Rs 1 crore each.
Commissioner Mohanty reiterated his commitment to maximizing and strengthening police resources, emphasizing his focus on tracking the movements of peddlers. While consumers of drugs will also be apprehended, the primary focus will be on the suppliers and peddlers. Notably, Mohanty emphasized the importance of rehabilitation and de-addiction for consumers, stating, Consumers need support to recover from addiction.
