A police search of a downtown Winnipeg apartment led to the seizure of $70,000 dollars in cocaine, thousands more in cash, and a loaded Glock handgun. The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) announced that its guns and gang unit recently concluded a drug investigation that traced back to a suite in the 300 block of Hargrave Street. During the raid, officers observed multiple individuals, three of whom tried to flee by jumping off the balcony to the top level of the building’s parkade. Fortunately, the police swiftly apprehended the suspects. Following a thorough search of the premises and a related vehicle, the authorities discovered over 2,100 grams of cocaine worth approximately $70,000, 633 grams of a cutting agent, about $5,000 in Canadian currency, a loaded 9mm Glock handgun with an extended magazine, 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and contaminated scales. Five individuals have been arrested and are now facing various drug and weapon-related charges. While three suspects remain in custody, the other two have been released pending further investigation.

The drug bust unfolded as part of an ongoing operation by the WPS guns and gang unit, aiming to combat drug-related crimes in the city. The unit initiated the investigation in November 2023, and their efforts have evidently paid off with this significant seizure of narcotics, cash, and a dangerous firearm. The police have yet to disclose the identities of the suspects or provide further information about their alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Winnipeg residents have expressed their concern over the rising drug-related activities in the area, and this operation serves as a reminder that law enforcement agencies are actively working to curb such criminal behavior. The WPS guns and gang unit continually strives to ensure the safety and well-being of the community by targeting those engaged in illegal activities and removing dangerous substances and weapons from the streets.

In a statement, Inspector Mark Rogers of the WPS guns and gang unit highlighted the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the community, stating, This seizure is the result of hard work, dedication, and cooperation between our officers and the public. We will continue our efforts to disrupt the operations of organized criminal networks and dismantle drug networks in Winnipeg.

The successful operation serves as a testament to the Winnipeg Police Service’s commitment to tackling drug-related crimes head-on. By systematically investigating leads and executing search warrants, the WPS aims to disrupt the operations of drug networks and keep the community safe.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to drug activity or other criminal offenses to come forward and report it to the WPS or Crime Stoppers, emphasizing that community involvement is crucial in combating illegal drug trade and maintaining a secure environment for all residents.

The five individuals who were arrested will appear in court to face charges related to drug trafficking and possession of a prohibited weapon. As the investigation progresses, the WPS will continue to work alongside the local community to ensure a safer Winnipeg for all.
