Seattle Seahawks’ Star Cornerback Tariq Woolen Returns to Practice after Knee Injury

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen has returned to practice after recovering from a knee injury that he suffered during a walk on the practice field. Woolen, a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, had an impressive rookie season, finishing third in the voting for the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. His absence during OTAs in May raised concerns among Seahawks fans, but it was later revealed that he had undergone arthroscopic knee surgery on May 23.

After being placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, Woolen finally made his way back to the field on August 6, participating in individual drills. While there is fierce competition at the cornerback position, head coach Pete Carroll has assured Woolen his starting spot remains secure. Carroll emphasized Woolen’s talent, stating, He’s a starter for us. He’s been a starter and he earned it, he did a great job last year.

Carroll provided an update on Woolen’s progress, expressing his satisfaction with the recovery process. He praised Woolen’s dedication and hard work, stating that he is getting closer every day and is running at a high level. Carroll also stressed the importance of getting Woolen back into football shape and ensuring his readiness before putting him back on the field.

Woolen’s return will undoubtedly impact the Seahawks’ defense. With his outstanding performance last season, where he tied the record for most interceptions by a rookie, the team will look to build upon his success. During Woolen’s absence, Tre Brown and Mike Jackson have been filling in at the outside cornerback positions, while last season’s primary nickel, Coby Bryant, has been taking reps at safety. The return of Woolen will add depth and versatility to the defense, and it will be interesting to see how the unit evolves.

The circumstances of Woolen’s injury raised eyebrows, as he reportedly hurt his knee while simply walking on the practice field. However, Carroll confirmed that it was an unusual occurrence, and Woolen immediately felt something was wrong. Fortunately, the surgery went smoothly, and Woolen’s recovery has been positive. He has shown a resilient attitude throughout the process and has been grateful for the support he has received from fans and his mother, Nola Woolen.

As Woolen continues to progress in his recovery, the Seahawks organization and fans alike are excited for his return. His skills and contributions to the team’s defense will undoubtedly make a significant impact in the upcoming season. With training camp in full swing, Woolen’s presence on the field will only strengthen the Seahawks’ chances of success.
