Gardaí in the Ballymun District coordinated a search operation this morning, targeting the use of illegal scramblers and quad bikes, as well as reports of dangerous driving. Search warrants were executed at nine properties in Ballymun, resulting in a significant seizure of vehicles and other illicit items.
The operation involved Gardaí attached to the Community Policing Unit, along with support from the Divisional Drugs Unit, Divisional Task Force, and Finglas Community Policing Unit. Their joint efforts yielded fruitful results, with a total of 12 scramblers, four quad bikes, and one motorbike being confiscated.
In addition to the vehicles, law enforcement authorities also seized four XL Bully dogs in collaboration with the Dublin City Council dog wardens. This move comes following a series of recent attacks on dogs in the Ballymun District, and it is hoped that these seizures will help curb such incidents in the future.
In the course of the search operation, investigating Gardaí discovered an imitation firearm, a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, and over €2,500 in cash. The seizure of these items reflects law enforcement’s commitment to tackling drug-related offenses and maintaining public safety.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Roads Policing Unit played its part by conducting rolling checkpoints throughout the day. As a result, 13 vehicles were seized under the Road Traffic Act, and a total of 25 fixed charge penalty notices were issued. These measures aim to address the issue of dangerous driving and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Moreover, three individuals were arrested for offenses contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act and the Public Order Act. As the investigation progresses, two individuals have been charged and are set to appear before court at a later date. One person was released without charge, while a file will be prepared for the Garda Youth Diversion Bureau.
The outcome of this search operation demonstrates the commitment of the Ballymun District Gardaí to maintaining law and order in the community. By targeting illegal scramblers, quad bikes, and dangerous driving, they are actively working to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Dublin 9.
While the seizures of vehicles and illicit items are an important aspect of these operations, it is equally vital to address the root causes behind such activities. The Gardaí’s collaboration with various units, along with their proactive approach to tackling dangerous driving and drug-related offenses, is a commendable effort in fostering a safe and secure environment for the community.
The Ballymun District Gardaí have urged local residents to report any suspicious activities or information related to the use of illegal scramblers, quad bikes, or dangerous driving. By working together, law enforcement and the community can continue to make a positive impact and create a safer living environment for all.
