Search teams are using remote-operated vehicles to try to locate a five-man submersible crew whose oxygen supply may have run out. The Horizon Arctic and French ship L’Atalante have deployed drones to the floor of the North Atlantic to search for the Titan submersible, while deep-sea salvage equipment from the US Navy has arrived in Newfoundland and is ready for deployment. However, the likelihood of finding the vessel in the murky depths, with just limited visual equipment to aid their search, is slim. Additionally, the sub’s near-freezing conditions are a concern, with the crew at risk of hypothermia and high levels of carbon dioxide. The search began after the Titanic submersible disappeared less than two hours after descending into the Atlantic.
