Everton and Ireland defender Seamus Coleman has agreed to a new one-year contract with his club, extending his stay until the end of June 2024. The 34-year-old, who hails from Donegal, joined Everton in 2009 from Sligo Rovers for a mere £60,000 and has since made 409 appearances for the club. Not only is Coleman the longest-serving player in the Premier League, but he is also just three matches away from overtaking Tim Howard as Everton’s record appearances maker in the competition.

Speculation had been circulating about Coleman’s future, primarily due to a season-ending injury he sustained during the 2023/2024 season. However, that speculation has now been put to rest with the announcement of his contract extension. Coleman expressed his gratitude to the club and its fans, stating, Everyone knows how much Everton means to me, which is why it is special to sign this new contract and continue to play for this great club. From the moment I joined more than 14 years ago, the support my family and I have had from our fans and everyone around the Club has been amazing, and I never take for granted just how fortunate I am to represent Everton. That has included the honor of wearing the captain’s armband in recent years.

Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright also voiced his delight at securing the services of the club captain for another year, emphasizing the immense impact Coleman has had on the team. Kenwright referred to Coleman as an Evertonian, a leader, and a sincere and genuine man. He praised the defender’s character and pointed out that even during his injury recoveries, Coleman chose to sign his last two contracts, demonstrating his commitment to the club. Kenwright concluded, Seamus Coleman is one of this Club’s greatest heroes in its 145-year history.

Coleman’s signing signals Everton’s confidence in his abilities and the value he brings both on and off the pitch. With his experience and leadership, he continues to play a crucial role in the team. Everton fans can now look forward to witnessing Coleman’s contributions for another season, supporting their captain as he aims to break records and lead the club to success.

Seamus Coleman’s contract extension is a testament to his dedication and loyalty to Everton, making him a beloved figure among fans. As the longest-serving player in the Premier League and an influential leader, Coleman embodies the qualities and values that Everton holds dear. His journey from a modest transfer fee to becoming one of the club’s most celebrated players serves as an inspiration to aspiring footballers. With his new deal in place, Coleman remains an integral part of Everton and a symbol of the club’s rich history.
