SDP’s Reckless Ethnic Campaign in Kogi Sparks Concerns
Concerns have been raised over the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) ethnic campaign in Kogi State, Nigeria. Abu Michael, a spokesperson for a former deputy governor of Kogi State, Yomi Awoniyi, who served under the People’s Democratic Party, condemned the SDP’s media mismanagement. In a statement released on Monday, Abu criticized the SDP’s Muritala Yakubu governorship candidate and his team for their poor communication skills and reliance on fabricating lies to gain public support.
Rather than focusing on issue-based campaigns and providing a blueprint for development, the SDP has opted for a reckless ethnic agenda. Abu highlighted the absence of any other vocabulary in the SDP candidate’s dictionary, other than violence, which has inadvertently damaged his reputation and potentially undermined his chances in the race for office.
Critics of the SDP argue that their campaign may be an attempt to compensate for the candidate’s perceived weaknesses in terms of track record and capacity. Abu urged responsible Kogites to hold the SDP accountable for fanning ethnic discord and only resorting to baseless allegations that reputable media outlets would not touch.
