A scientist and journalist, Michael Guillen, who visited the wreckage of the Titanic two decades ago, has called for all trips to the site to be cancelled until the cause of the Titan submersible tragedy is determined. Guillen stated that due to the tragic event, the Titanic has become a sacred ground and should be treated as such. The submersible tragedy and the recent discovery of the wreckage and the missing Titan sub caused a fresh wave of concern about the safety of such excursions. Guillen has a terrifying experience of being trapped in the Russian submersible which hit the Titanic’s propeller, which lead to the sub getting caught in an underwater current. He believes that similar trips should be stopped, adding that it’s not a looky loo touristy thing but a serious site that needs respect. Guillen has also suggested that officials should ask people why they want to visit the Titanic and how to get there safely.
