Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has urged India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to intervene in the case of hundreds of Punjabi students who are facing deportation from Canada due to fraudulent admission letters issued by unscrupulous education services agents based in India. In a letter to the minister, Harsimrat Kaur asked for emphasis to be placed on taking action against institutions and authorised agents who have played with the future of students. She also called for the affected students to be treated sympathetically and granted permanent residency without any hindrance.

According to the MP, the Education Migration Services based in Jalandhar duped the students by first issuing fake admission letters to a prestigious college and charging them between Rs 16 to 20 lakh for the same. When the students reached Canada, they were informed that their admission had been cancelled and they had been admitted to an alternative institution. However, when the students applied for permanent residency, they were issued deportation orders as their original admission documents were found to be fake.

Harsimrat Kaur stated that this scam had been going on for a long time and that the involvement of Canadian operatives or educational institutions in Canada could not be ruled out. She called for action to be taken against all persons involved, including Canadian colleges that admit students above their capacity. The MP also pointed out that this was not an isolated incident, with 700 students having faced deportation earlier on the same grounds. Evidently, the issue of fraudulent admissions continues to plague students.

It is essential that appropriate action is taken to stop such fraudulent activities that not only dupe students but also harm the reputation of educational institutions and nations. As Harsimrat Kaur stated, the future of these students needs to be protected, and India’s External Affairs Ministry must act promptly to find a solution that benefits everyone.
