Saudi Arabia’s security officials are holding preparatory meetings for the upcoming Hajj season. Millions of pilgrims are expected to visit the holy city of Mecca, with the annual pilgrimage scheduled to begin on June 26. The Director of Public Security and chairman of the Hajj Security Committee, Lieutenant-General Mohammad bin Abdullah al-Bassami, chaired a meeting focused on preparing security forces to preserve security and safety of the pilgrims at the Grand Holy Mosque and facilitate performing the Hajj rituals. The meeting also aimed to boost cooperation and coordination among security and military authorities responsible for providing services to pilgrims. The meetings come after the Kingdom announced its largest ever Hajj operational plan, with record-breaking numbers of staff and volunteers set to help pilgrims. COVID-19 restrictions on numbers have been lifted, but Saudi Arabia recommends vaccinations ahead of the season.
