Samsung Wallet Expands Support for Student IDs, Making Campus Life Easier

Samsung Wallet, the digital wallet app developed by Samsung, is now offering expansive support for student IDs at participating schools and colleges. This latest update comes a year after the launch of Samsung Wallet, which allows users to store debit and credit cards, loyalty cards, and even driver’s licenses digitally.

Initially, student IDs were not available on the app due to the need for support from educational institutions. However, Samsung has now worked out the necessary arrangements, enabling students to present a digital version of their identification using their Galaxy devices.

According to Samsung, 68 colleges, universities, and higher education institutes have already partnered with Samsung Wallet to implement this new feature. Through Samsung Wallet, students not only have visual confirmation of their IDs but can also use the app to unlock doors and make payments using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. As an added convenience, the app includes features like Fast Mode, allowing users to present their NFC ID without unlocking their devices, and Power Reserve, which allows students to use their device even when its battery is low.

To make this possible, Samsung collaborated with Tranasact Campus, providing access to an existing mobile payment system already in use at more than 1,800 institutions. It is expected that more campuses will be added in the future, expanding the reach of Samsung Wallet’s student ID system.

While student IDs are now available on Samsung Wallet, the inclusion of driver’s licenses will require more time and effort to implement. Nevertheless, with this major step forward in student ID support, it is exciting to see how Samsung will continue to enhance and expand the functionality of their digital wallet app.

Samsung Wallet’s integration of student IDs provides a convenient and secure way for students to access various campus services. By leveraging NFC technology and partnering with educational institutions, Samsung has taken a significant step towards a future where important documents like student IDs and driver’s licenses can be conveniently stored and accessed digitally. Students can now say goodbye to carrying physical identification cards and enjoy the convenience and security offered by Samsung Wallet.
