Samsung Electronics America has announced that it is now offering support for student IDs on Samsung Wallet at 68 colleges, universities, and higher education institutions across the United States. This update will provide students with a convenient way to use their student IDs on their Galaxy smartphones.

According to a blog post by Samsung, the tech giant is working closely with its partners to expand this offering to even more educational institutions in the future. Jude Buckley, the executive vice president of Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics America, stated, We’re always looking to innovate and improve the Galaxy experience for every kind of user. Technology plays a big part in today’s college experience, and with student ID for Samsung Wallet, we created a way for students to use the technology they already have on hand to simplify their busy lives.

Samsung Wallet, which was launched last year, combines the mobile payment capabilities of Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass into a comprehensive digital wallet. With the addition of student IDs, students will now be able to use their Galaxy smartphones to conveniently unlock doors at places such as dorm rooms and academic buildings.

Moreover, at select participating institutions, students can also use their devices for near field communication (NFC)-based payments at on-campus stores, vending machines, and other locations. The integration of Fast Mode and Power Reserve on Samsung Wallet further enhances the convenience for student life.

Fast Mode allows students to simply tap their phone without needing to unlock it, while Power Reserve enables the use of student IDs even when the phone’s battery is low or switched off. Samsung explained that these features are made possible because the student ID information stored on Samsung Wallet is kept in an isolated environment on the device itself, known as the embedded Secure Element, which offers high levels of hardware security to protect against hacking.

As students increasingly rely on their smartphones for various aspects of their lives, the ability to store and use their student IDs on their Galaxy devices provides a convenient and streamlined experience. Samsung’s collaboration with educational institutions demonstrates its commitment to continuously improving and enhancing the Galaxy user experience.

With the expansion of support for student IDs on Samsung Wallet, Samsung Electronics America is aiming to simplify the daily lives of students by utilizing the technology already at their disposal. By merging the functionalities of mobile payments, access control, and student identification, Samsung is making it easier than ever for students to navigate campus life with just their Galaxy smartphones.
