Utah officials are ready and willing to host the A’s

SALT LAKE CITY – The Oakland A’s are actively searching for a temporary home from 2025 to 2027 while waiting for their new stadium in Las Vegas to be completed. And it seems that Salt Lake City is throwing its hat into the ring as a potential host city for the team.

Steve Starks, CEO of Baseball Utah, confirmed via social media that Utah officials recently met with the A’s top brass and are prepared to welcome the team for three seasons if needed. Starks stated, We have been in regular contact with the Athletics. We hosted team officials on Thursday, and demonstrated we can accommodate their ballpark needs.

Starks went on to express the excitement surrounding the opportunity, explaining that Utah has a brand-new ballpark opening in 2025 in Downtown Daybreak, South Jordan. This stadium, located in a sports and entertainment district, is designed to offer first-class amenities for both players and fans. Starks emphasized the stadium’s appeal, stating, It will include breathtaking views of the field and the Wasatch Mountains, is easily accessible from Mountain View Corridor and TRAX, and is in the fastest-growing part of Salt Lake County.

The proposed solution involves using both Smith’s Ballpark and the new stadium in Daybreak, ensuring that baseball remains in the Salt Lake market even as the Salt Lake Bees return to Smith’s Ballpark for additional seasons.

While the A’s are considering other potential homes such as San Francisco, Sacramento, and Reno, the Miller Family, who is aiming to attract an expansion MLB team to Utah, sees the A’s temporary relocation as a valuable trial run.

The A’s lease with the Oakland Coliseum expires after the 2024 season, leaving them in need of a home for three seasons until their Las Vegas stadium is ready in 2028.

As the A’s exploration continues, it is clear that Utah officials are making a strong case for Salt Lake City as a potential host city. With their impressive ballpark facilities and the Miller Family’s ambitions, it remains to be seen if the A’s will find their temporary refuge amid the breathtaking views of the Wasatch Mountains.
