Salisbury Dominates Rowan County Football Jamboree with 28-0 Win Against West Rowan

The fifth annual Rowan County Football Jamboree took place recently, providing an opportunity for the local teams to prepare for the upcoming season. Hosted by Carson, the event showcased the talents and determined efforts of all the Rowan teams. While the final scores of the scrimmages weren’t the primary focus, it was evident that some teams have more work to do than others.

Salisbury displayed an impressive start to their campaign by securing a dominant 28-0 victory over West Rowan. Although the result holds no official significance, it certainly carries county bragging rights. Salisbury head coach Clayton Trivett expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, acknowledging that they still have progress to make but are on the right track.

Mike Geter, a standout player for Salisbury, showcased his skills on both sides of the ball. Geter contributed to his team’s success with a rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown, and an interception. Deuce Walker, one of the most heavily recruited seniors in the county, caught a touchdown pass, while Jamal Rule added another rushing touchdown to Salisbury’s tally. The Hornets’ Kenyon Hairston made a notable leaping interception and seized the opportunity to score after an errant snap by the Falcons.

West Rowan, on the other hand, faced a challenging evening. Head coach Louis Kraft acknowledged their struggles but remains confident that his team will learn from their mistakes. He praised Salisbury for their high intensity and noted their desire for revenge following West’s victory over the Hornets last year.

In another Jamboree fixture, A.L. Brown triumphed over East Rowan with a 14-3 scoreline. Mekhi Herron and Masiah Bennermon found the end zone for the Wonders, under the guidance of their new head coach, Justin Hardin. Carter Honeucytt contributed with a field goal for East Rowan.

Meanwhile, North Rowan secured a 20-6 victory against South Rowan. With a new head coach, Josh Sophia, leading their campaign, the Cavaliers showcased their potential in this early-season encounter. Jaemias Morrow played a crucial role for North Rowan, scoring a touchdown on offense and adding a pick-six on defense. Khor’on Miller scored the other touchdown for the Cavaliers. South Rowan managed to find the end zone with an impressive 68-yard pass play from Brooks Overcash to Dalton Young.

Unfortunately, Carson’s scheduled scrimmage with Albemarle did not occur due to the Bulldogs’ absence. However, the Cougars were able to get valuable practice by engaging in a scrimmage with Salisbury. Although there was no scoring in this particular encounter, Carson head coach Jonathan Lowe expressed satisfaction with the quality repetitions his team received.

As the Jamboree concluded, the teams now have a clearer understanding of the areas they need to focus on before the official season commences on August 18th. Salisbury will open their campaign at home against North Davidson, while East Rowan will face North Rowan away. Carson will travel to Mount Pleasant, West Rowan will play against A.L. Brown, and South Rowan will enjoy home-field advantage against Union Academy.

Overall, the Rowan County Football Jamboree provided an exciting glimpse into what the upcoming season holds for these local teams. While the final scores may not hold much significance, the lessons learned and the improvements made during these scrimmages will play a crucial role in shaping their performance in the official games. With each team now aware of their strengths and weaknesses, they can fine-tune their strategies and work towards success in their respective fixtures.
