The Salisbury Hornets showcased their explosive offense as they dominated the East Davidson Golden Eagles with a resounding 57-6 victory. The Hornets remain unbeaten this season with an impressive 8-0 record, including a perfect 4-0 in conference play. On the other hand, the Golden Eagles now have a 2-5 overall record and are still searching for their first conference win.

Salisbury wasted no time in asserting their dominance, scoring 35 points in the second quarter alone. By halftime, they had built a commanding 43-0 lead. Despite their best efforts, the Golden Eagles managed to avoid a shutout by scoring on the final play of the game.

The Hornets’ offense was firing on all cylinders, led by Georgia State commit Deuce Walker, who scored three touchdowns in the first 15 minutes of the game. Walker showcased his versatility by finding the endzone through a reception, a run, and a pick-six. Jamal Rule also had an outstanding performance, accumulating 165 rushing yards, including a 60-yard dash for a touchdown. Rule scored three touchdowns in total, two on the ground and one through a pass. Furthermore, Army commit Mike Geter contributed two touchdown passes, further solidifying Salisbury’s offensive prowess.

Not only did the Hornets dominate on offense, but their defense also made a significant impact. Salisbury intercepted a total of four passes, with Walker and Torian Brown returning two for touchdowns. Geter and Jackson Sparger also had interceptions to round out a stellar defensive performance.

Salisbury’s special teams also came up big, with Jaylyn Smith returning the second-half kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown, further contributing to their impressive 50-0 lead at that point. Kicker Hank Webb was reliable, successfully converting all seven extra point attempts. Dashawn Brown also caught a 2-point conversion pass following Salisbury’s first touchdown.

With the victory, Salisbury maintains their unbeaten streak and sets their sights on their upcoming game against Lexington. Lexington is coming off a 40-14 win against West Davidson and, like Salisbury, remains undefeated in conference play. Both teams, along with North Rowan, are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the CCC as the regular season enters its final three weeks.

In other local football action, the East Rowan Mustangs were finally able to generate some offense after being shut out in their previous two games. However, it wasn’t enough as they fell to Central Cabarrus 34-23 in a South Piedmont Conference matchup. East Rowan, still searching for their first win, will now turn their attention to their next game against Carson. Meanwhile, Central Cabarrus improved to a 2-5 overall record and 1-3 in conference play.

Concord quarterback Keyon Phillips put on an impressive performance, accounting for six touchdowns in a 38-3 South Piedmont Conference win against South Rowan. The Spiders took advantage of an early fumble by South Rowan and successfully executed an onside kick, allowing them to jump to a 13-0 lead. Concord never looked back and comfortably secured the victory. Brooks Overcash threw for 149 yards for South Rowan, but their only points came from Jadon Moore’s 32-yard field goal. Joaquin Bernal recovered a fumble in the red zone to stop a Concord drive, but the Spiders’ rushing attack proved too much for South Rowan to handle. South Rowan faces a tough challenge next week against undefeated Robinson, while Concord will be the underdog in their matchup against Northwest Cabarrus.

AL Brown emerged victorious in their Greater Metro Conference game against West Cabarrus with a 49-34 win. Mekhi Herron had a standout performance for AL Brown, scoring five touchdowns and leading his team to their first conference victory under coach Justin Hardin. Despite the Wonders’ 36-7 halftime lead, West Cabarrus made a late surge in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap to 42-34. However, Herron sealed the victory for AL Brown with a late touchdown. The Wonders will be looking to build on this win when they face South Iredell in their next game, while West Cabarrus will host Mooresville.

Davie County suffered a tough setback on the road, losing 35-34 to Mount Tabor in a Central Piedmont Conference matchup. Despite a strong performance from Davie County’s Ty Miller, who threw for 313 yards, they were unable to secure the win. Mount Tabor’s blocked extra point after a Davie County touchdown with 4:39 remaining proved pivotal in the outcome of the game. While Davie falls to a 5-2 overall record and 3-1 in conference play, Mount Tabor celebrates their first conference win of the season.

Salisbury’s dominating victory, along with the other local football results, highlight the competitive nature of high school football in the area. As the regular season enters its final stretch, teams will be looking to fine-tune their performances and make a strong push for the playoffs.
