Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has delivered a speech at the UN General Assembly, accusing Western nations of neo-colonialism and painting them as an empire of lies. Lavrov claimed that the West was adopting a neo-colonial mindset by seeking support from the Global South for its actions in Ukraine. He argued that the US and its allies were attempting to divide the world and force other nations to adhere to their own self-centered rules.

While Lavrov’s speech did not specifically address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, he dismissed Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s 10-point peace proposal and the UN’s efforts to revive the Black Sea grain initiative. Lavrov claimed that both proposals were not feasible and unrealistic. He also criticized the West for failing to deliver on promises made to Russia, such as removing sanctions on a Russian bank and reconnecting it to the global SWIFT system.

Lavrov attributed the current crises in the food and energy markets to Western nations, claiming that their unilateral coercive measures, such as sanctions, were causing disruptions and increasing prices. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues its counteroffensive against Russia’s invasion, launching missile attacks on occupied Crimea, including the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.

The strained relationship between Ukraine and Poland over grain imports was also highlighted. Poland recently extended its ban on Ukrainian grain imports, further complicating the two countries’ ties. Nonetheless, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the Polish people for their support during these challenging times.

It is important to note that these events and statements reflect specific perspectives and should be viewed as part of a complex geopolitical situation. The conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, with casualties reported on both sides. The impact of the ongoing crisis extends beyond the region, affecting global markets and geopolitical dynamics.
