Russia Calls for Ceasefire in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, Denounces Terrorism
Moscow – In the midst of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Russia has condemned terrorism and urged both sides to establish a ceasefire. The Russian government, led by President Vladimir Putin, has expressed its condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized the need for peace and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
Since the start of this crisis, Moscow has been actively engaging with both Israel and the Palestinians, including the Hamas group that controls Gaza. Russia has sought to portray the conflict as a consequence of failed U.S. diplomacy, reflecting its long-standing criticism of what it perceives as the marginalization of the Palestinian people.
Responding to reports of Israeli disappointment with Russia’s stance, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the two countries maintain regular and intensive dialogue, exchanging opinions on various matters. He also underscored that Russia’s position is consistent, reiterating President Putin’s condemnation of all forms of terrorism.
Moreover, Peskov affirmed Russia’s support for an immediate ceasefire and endeavors aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region. The ongoing Israeli bombardment in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of thousands of individuals, primarily civilians, since Hamas militants launched an assault on Israeli towns and kibbutzim on October 7, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.
Russia’s growing political and security ties with Iran, a long-time adversary of Israel, have also come under scrutiny in recent times, particularly since Moscow’s military intervention in Ukraine. Nevertheless, Russia’s commitment to condemning terrorism and advocating for a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains firm.
As the world continues to witness escalating violence and loss of life in the region, it is crucial for global leaders and stakeholders to come together and work towards de-escalation, dialogue, and long-term stability. Russia’s call for a ceasefire serves as a reminder of the pressing need to prioritize peace and address the root causes of this enduring conflict.
