India is all set to kick off its 8th Junior and 10th Senior Rugby National Championships. Around 1,500 athletes from 27 states are vying for the top spot in junior and senior categories. The championship, which begins with the junior girls and senior women’s categories, is being held at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Balewadi, Pune. The juniors will play from June 5 to 6, while the seniors will play on June 9 and 10. Rahul Bose, the president of the Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU), said that 2023-24 will be the biggest year for the game in India, and the Indian teams will participate in nine tournaments this year. Defending champions, Bihar, will compete for the unbeaten record from last year in both junior girls’ women’s categories against strong competition from Odisha, Maharashtra, and West Bengal. The event will be live-streamed to promote the sport further in India. The championship will be followed by the junior boys and men’s event from June 14 to 18.
