Legendary rugby commentator Hugh Bladen, who suffered two strokes in October 2021, is healthy and in good spirits after moving to Cape Town to stay with his daughter. The 78-year-old broadcaster, who is known for his deep passion for the sport, spoke about his career and health in a recent interview with Bush Radio. Bladen, who attended King Edward VII High School in Johannesburg, has been a rugby commentator since 1976 and has covered 27 Currie Cup finals. Despite his health scare, Bladen remains optimistic and believes South African rugby is in a very strong position at the moment. He wishes the Springboks well for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France and believes the team can repeat their 2019 triumph. Bladen’s legacy as one of the world’s best rugby commentators will always remain in South African and world rugby.
