A Washington, D.C., jury has ordered Rudy Giuliani to pay more than $148 million to two Georgia election workers for defamatory statements he made about them following the 2020 election. The defamation lawsuit brought by the poll workers — Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss — began on Monday, and came months after Giuliani was found liable for several of the women’s claims of defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and civil conspiracy. Giuliani’s false claims included publicizing a video that accused Freeman and Moss of rigging the election in Joe Biden’s favor. The women were awarded a total of $75 million in punitive damages, with each receiving an additional $20 million for emotional distress. Giuliani also faces criminal charges related to his efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. This ruling is another blow to Giuliani, who has been sued by his own former attorneys and Dominion Voting Systems over his false election conspiracy claims.
