Rudolph Isley, a founding member of the influential rhythm and blues band the Isley Brothers, passed away at the age of 84, according to a family statement. Isley, who was known for his singing, songwriting, and harmonizing skills, was responsible for co-writing many of the band’s iconic hits such as Shout, Fight the Power, and That Lady. His family expressed that he is now in a better place and will forever remain in their hearts.

Born in Cincinnati, Rudolph Isley began his musical journey singing in church alongside his brothers Ronald, O’Kelly, and Vernon. Tragically, Vernon died in a traffic accident at a young age. Over the years, the Isley Brothers expanded their lineup to include other talented members like Marvin and Ernie, as well as brother-in-law Chris Jasper.

While Isley contributed to the band as a harmonizing vocalist, he also played a significant role as a songwriter. Shout, their breakthrough hit from 1959, showcased his songwriting abilities with its gospel-style call-and-response format. The infectious chorus of You know you make me wanna shout! quickly became a crowd-favorite.

The Isley Brothers continued to release hits, including Twist and Shout, a song later covered by the Beatles, and This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You), covered by Rod Stewart. Their music resonated with audiences all over the world, leaving a lasting impact on the R&B genre.

In the late 1980s, Rudolph Isley made a significant life change and became a Christian minister. However, he would occasionally join the group for performances, showcasing his enduring passion for music and his place in the Isley Brothers’ legacy.

The family did not disclose the cause of Isley’s death, but they emphasized that he has now joined the ranks of angels in heaven. The loss of Rudolph Isley leaves behind a profound void in the music industry, but his contributions and influential music will forever be remembered and cherished by fans worldwide.
