Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney has pledged to contribute one lakh pounds towards establishing an education scholarship fund to assist underprivileged students from Punjab enroll in high-ranking British universities. Sahney, an MP from the Aam Aadmi Party, was also awarded the ‘Sikh of the Year Award’ by the Sikh Forum International while in London on June 5. During his time in the UK, Sahney also advocated for a museum dedicated to Indian and Sikh artifacts to be opened in London.
He further urged the Sikh International Forum to assist Punjabi students with their studies at Oxford and Cambridge. Sahney, who also serves as the International President of the World Punjabi Organisation, has previously been involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of hundreds of refugees, including 500 Afghan refugees and 50 stranded Punjabi women in Oman. His latest contribution to the education scholarship fund is expected to assist many students from economically weaker backgrounds.
