Rs 100 Cr Drug Bust: Assam Police Seizes Heroin & Yaba Tablets in Karimganj; 4 Arrested, India

Drugs worth around Rs 100 crore were recovered from Karimganj district of Assam on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of four peddlers, according to the police. The operation was carried out by the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) and Karimganj Police based on specific information. The joint team intercepted a car in Suprakandi and upon searching the vehicle, they discovered approximately 5.1 kilograms of heroin, 64,000 Yaba tablets, and four packets of foreign cigarettes.

The four arrested individuals have been identified as Nur Ahmed, Zosangliani, Ramngheaka, and Lalchamliana. Nur, who was driving the car, hails from Patharkandi in Karimganj district, while the rest are from Thenzawl in Mizoram’s Serchhip district.

Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that the seized drugs were smuggled into Mizoram from outside India and were intended to be transported out of Assam. This significant operation marks the largest-ever drug seizure in eastern India. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, DIG of STF, expressed that in line with the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and DGP G P Singh, the Assam Police will intensify their fight against drugs in the future.
