Round Rock Dragons Ready for Redemption with Talented Roster in 2023

After a disappointing early exit from the state playoffs last season, the Round Rock Dragons are determined to make a comeback. With a talented roster returning for the upcoming 2023 season, they have an excellent chance to set things right and make a deep playoff run.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach Cody Moore, the Dragons are gearing up for success. One of their standout players is senior quarterback Mason Cochran, who showcased his versatility by accumulating over 2,200 total yards last season. Cochran’s ability to lead the offense and make plays with his arm and legs will undoubtedly be a valuable asset for the team.

Defensively, the Dragons are anchored by senior defensive back Leonard Moore, who will be taking his talents to Notre Dame next season. Moore’s presence in the secondary will be crucial in shutting down opposing passing attacks and providing leadership to the defense. His commitment to playing at such a prestigious program exemplifies the caliber of talent on the Dragons’ roster.

The Dragons have already experienced success this summer, as they emerged victorious in the Texas 7-on-7 Division I championship held in June. While this achievement may not directly translate to on-field success during the regular season, it has undoubtedly boosted the team’s confidence leading into the upcoming campaign.

Coach Moore, who was elevated from defensive coordinator after Jeff Cheatham took on the role of district athletic director, believes that the duo of Cochran and Moore bring invaluable experience and leadership to the team. Having started since their sophomore year, these players have accumulated valuable game-time exposure and are battle-tested. Their ability to guide the team through challenging situations will undoubtedly be advantageous for the Dragons.

As they reflect on last season’s 9-2 record, with their only district loss coming against eventual 6A-D2 runner-up Vandegrift, the Dragons are motivated to perform even better this time around. Their playoff hopes were dashed by a loss to Lake Travis in the bi-district round, where Cochran was hindered by an ankle injury. This year, the Dragons are committed to overcoming past obstacles and making a deeper postseason run.

The Dragons will kick off their season on August 25th with a home game against Weiss. This opening game will serve as an early test for the team and an opportunity to showcase their potential for a successful season.

With a talented roster, experienced leadership, and a head coach determined to make his mark, the Round Rock Dragons are primed for redemption in the 2023 season. Fans and followers of high school football can expect an exciting and competitive campaign from this resilient team.
