Around Town: Ronald McDonald House Charities’ Decorated Christmas Trees Draw a Sold-Out Crowd

The Ronald McDonald House Charities Christmas Trees Festival, themed Santa’s Other Sleighs and sponsored by Darrell Fleck, was a resounding success, drawing a sold-out crowd to Pinery at the Hill on December 3. Against the backdrop of gently falling snowflakes, 25 beautifully decorated table-top trees delighted attendees, bringing an early Christmas cheer.

This year marked the second installment of the popular Christmas Tree Festival, which exceeded expectations and sold out quickly. The overwhelming response from attendees has the nonprofit already planning for next year’s festival to meet the demand of eager fans.

The festival showcased a variety of themed trees, each sponsored by different individuals and companies. From golf and Broncos trees to pickleball and a Barbie World tree, there was something for everyone. Vintage Hallmark ornaments, Team USA, a patriotic tree, a boot-scootin’ night with the girls, and other whimsical designs added to the festive atmosphere.

Guests had the opportunity to choose their favorite trees before enjoying a delicious brunch. They selected their preferred designs by placing tickets in boxes associated with each tree. Lucky winners took home the magnificent trees, just in time to fill their homes with holiday magic.

However, the real purpose behind the event was the home that love built – the Ronald McDonald House – which provides support for families with seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby Children’s Hospital. The organization shared that this year alone, more than 8,000 overnight stays were provided to families, allowing them to be close to their little ones during their hospitalization. The Ronald McDonald House offers various amenities, including meals, play areas, laundry facilities, and spaces for families to connect and find solace in one another’s experiences.

Last year, the Ronald McDonald House served families from 72 Colorado counties and 32 out-of-state counties. Moreover, over 3,600 family members utilized the in-hospital family rooms, which provide a quiet and intimate space just steps away from their child’s hospital room.

The success of the Ronald McDonald House Charities heavily relies on the dedication of its volunteers, who generously contribute their time and effort. In 2021, the organization had 229 volunteers who collectively provided 13,858 hours of service, a testament to their commitment to keeping families together during challenging times.

During the event, the organizers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, emphasizing the crucial role they play in keeping families close when they need support the most. Honoring their commitment, Corwin Toyota of Colorado Springs was recognized as the Presenting Sponsor for their unwavering support.

Other valued sponsors included Gold Sponsors Bob Penkhus Volvo, Colorado Custom Blinds, Dillard’s, McMillan Family McDonalds, MGA Homecare, Mr. Appliance, Orangetheory, Reinerth Enterprises McDonalds, and Shea Chappell Custom Homes. Silver Sponsors Lowe’s, McKinney Door Solutions, and Pediatrix Neonatology of Colorado Springs, along with Bronze Sponsors 5Star Bank, Assured Partners, Coca Cola, Forvis, Landmark Plumbing and Heating, and Trafton Roofing and Repair also received recognition for their contributions.

Looking ahead, the Ronald McDonald House Charities has several upcoming events planned. The Sporting Clays Shoot is scheduled for June 7, followed by Riders 4 Children on July 27 and the Cameron Memorial Golf Tournament on October 7.
