Jet Strikes Catalog Deal with BMG, Reigniting Global Success

Australian rock band Jet, known for their hits like Are You Gonna Be My Girl and Look What You’ve Done, has struck a catalog deal with BMG, signifying a revival of their global success. The terms of the deal, which was announced on Thursday (Sept. 28), were not disclosed. Under the agreement, BMG has acquired the rights to Jet’s first two albums, Get Born and Shine On, for Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, BMG has obtained the global royalty stream for these recordings in perpetuity, as well as global rights to their third album, Shaka Rock.

Jet’s classic lineup, consisting of Nic Cester (vocals/guitar), Chris Cester (vocals/drums), Cam Muncey (vocals/guitar), and Mark Wilson (bass), recently reunited ahead of their induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the band is currently on a national tour, commemorating their highly successful album Get Born, which won six ARIA Awards in 2004. The album has achieved nine-times platinum certification and is recognized as one of the top 5 highest-selling Australian rock albums of all time.

The president of BMG, Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia, Heath Johns, described the deal as a landmark and highlighted Jet’s global success as a generation-defining band. All three of Jet’s studio albums garnered success, with each reaching the top 40 on the Billboard 200 chart and cracking the Official U.K. Albums Chart.

Apart from their chart success, Jet’s music has gained popularity through various syncs in international advertising campaigns, feature films, TV series, and video game franchises. Notably, their song Are You Gonna Be My Girl was featured in an Apple iPod campaign in the 2000s.

In recent years, BMG has been expanding its presence in Australia and has signed several Australian and New Zealand acts. The addition of Jet’s catalog further strengthens their position as the fastest-growing music company in the region.

Chris Cester, commenting on the deal, expressed his trust in BMG, stating, We’re already with BMG for our publishing and they do what they say they’re gonna do. That’s a rare thing in this business. Sooner or later you figure out that’s the only thing that matters if you’re serious about what you do.

With this catalog deal, Jet and BMG aim to reignite the band’s global success and establish a strong partnership in the ever-evolving music industry.
