Police Confirm Kidnap Incident Near Port Harcourt Airport, Launch Investigation
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed an attack on road users along the Port Harcourt International Airport Road, Omuagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, where some commuters were abducted. According to the Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, three persons were involved in the ugly incident, contrary to earlier reports of eight persons being kidnapped.
The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has tasked the tactical team Commander and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area with ensuring adequate security measures and the arrest of the criminals.
Reportedly, suspected Fulani herdsmen kidnapped about eight persons near the Port Harcourt International Airport Roundabout in Omuagwa, Rivers State. The assailants had blocked the left flank of the road a few kilometers away from the airport roundabout. The victims, who were traveling from the airport axis to the Obiri-Ikwerre area, were attacked by the bandits.
Eyewitnesses revealed that over ten cars were involved, and those unable to escape the scene were kidnapped. Emmanuel Biira, one of the victims who managed to escape, disclosed that three people were whisked away from his car. Shockingly, one of them was shot in the head before being taken captive.
In response to this distressing incident, the Rivers State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation to apprehend the criminals and secure the release of the abducted individuals.
