Polaris Transportation Group Announces Appointment of Richard Kunow as President

Polaris Transportation Group, a leading North American provider of cross border transportation and logistics, has appointed Richard Kunow as the company’s President, according to an announcement made today. Kunow, who previously served as Polaris’ Chief Operating Officer (COO) since joining in 2020, will now oversee Polaris Transportation Group and Polaris Commercial Warehousing companies.

In his role as President, Kunow will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and strategic growth plan of the company. Meanwhile, Dave Cox will retain his position as Polaris CEO and will lead the company’s growth initiatives, sustainability efforts, workplace culture, community-focused programs, and technological advancements.

Cox expressed his confidence in Kunow’s abilities, stating, Richard and I share the same vision of taking care of our customers and our people and making positive changes across our industry and community… I know he is the perfect choice for filling the role as President.

During his tenure as COO, Kunow played a crucial role in establishing Polaris’ operational resiliency. He successfully maintained rapid growth even amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Kunow focused on enhancing visibility, optimizing warehousing efficiencies, and improving the overall customer experience through digitization and an Energy Savings plan, which resulted in approximately 30% savings across all service locations.

With over 35 years of senior management experience, Kunow brings a wealth of expertise to his new position. He has previously held prominent positions at organizations such as PepsiCo, Maple Leaf Foods, DHL, and Walmart, dedicating his career to strategic business development and execution. Kunow is a certified Six Sigma Level 3 Green Belt and has completed leadership programs at the Niagara Institute and the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University.

Expressing his enthusiasm about his new role, Kunow said, It is truly a proud moment to hold the former position of Dave Cox and Larry Cox (Co-founder)…I am honored to work alongside such exceptional people and look forward to what we’ll achieve together moving forward.

Under Kunow’s leadership, Polaris will continue to prioritize professional development and provide opportunities for employees to thrive. He played a significant role in the launch of the Larry Cox Academy, a coaching and training program designed to accelerate career paths for Polaris employees. As President, Kunow aims to inspire his team to be their best selves and work together to help Polaris reach its full potential as a leader in the cross border transportation and logistics market.
