The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) has released a revised schedule for the Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) exam, dealing a blow to the 46,000 applicants in the state who will now have to apply afresh. The new schedule introduces a two-phase exam, with the first phase being a 100-mark screening test, followed by a 150-mark subjective exam. The application process for the 4,476 PGT posts will begin on June 28 and close on July 18. The HPSC will release advertisements for exams for different categories separately to avoid confusion. By March 31, 2022, the process of final selection on PGT posts will be completed.
The commission has also decided to give relaxations in age to the PGT candidates who had applied for the exam earlier and had applied through HTET against the advertisements revoked in 2019 and 2022. It will also refund their application fees. The move is aimed at addressing the urgent need for teachers in Haryana, with the school education department requiring about 20,000 teachers immediately. The department plans to hire about 4,500 PGTs and 8,000 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) through regular recruitment, while the rest will be hired through Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam.
The HPSC is preparing a special software for the PGT application, which is almost ready, said a senior official. The commission is planning to organize the screening test in the last month of July, and the subjective tests will be conducted in November. The commission has taken the decision to start the process afresh to ensure other recruitment exams can advance without encountering any problems. According to sources, separate advertisements will be issued for 19 subjects for Mewat Cadre and eight subjects for Rest of Haryana (RoH) Cadre.
The official also informed that even if a candidate moves court against any confusion for the exam, the commission’s decision to release separate advertisements for different categories will ensure that other recruitment exams can proceed without issues. The HPSC has sought to organize an efficient and transparent process for the recruitment of PGTs, taking into account the shortage of teachers in the state.
